And on the lighter side of John Lennon's death... Stephen King Shot John Lennon!

So the story goes like this. I'm driving down a busy California street in rush hour when I see this van with all kinds of stuff written all over it. The van was many car lengths ahead, but as someone who will go out of his way to read a bumper sticker, a whole van full of stuff to read was well worth the aggressive driving it would take to catch up. I was one car length behind him when the stoplight we were approaching turned yellow and was just about red when the lady in front of me decided to stop. I lost him.

Several minutes later, when the light was green again, I continued up the road. A couple of miles down the road, I see the van parked in front of an apartment building. The guy wasn't in it, but I had my camera with me and I began clicking away.

In the windows were lots of different articles. Some from Time and Newsweek and some were written by him with a typewriter. I was in too much of a hurry to read them all, but the jist of it was that quotes from Reagan and Nixon in a couple of these articles were actually government codes pertaining to government conspiracy to kill John Lennon.

It was all very entertaining, but a little hard to buy. Either way, I thought it'd be worth sharing with the world.

John Lennon's Murder

New York Times article published shortly after his death. Tells the tale of that tragic night and several days afterward. Tells about the real murderer (Mark Chapman) and his copy of "The Catcher and the Rye."

The Murder Of John Lennon a gripping (and factual) account of the last couple of months of John Lennon's life, including a detailed account of the fateful night. (This page is slow and very flaky).

While it's clear Mark Chapman shot John Lennon, there are those who believe there was a conspiracy behind John Lennon's murder. Here are a couple of pages that deal with this. First is THE JOHN LENNON FILES which talks a little about the conspiracy. Then there's the Death of John Lennon! which is a personal page of a Cal Poly student who came across a book entitled "Who Shot John Lennon." The book is no longer in print, but it wasn't very hard to find through a book search company.

Probably the best one out there is Bagism, who's owner recently had done battle with the John Lennon estate over his use of pictures and sound clips. John may have been able to imagine no possesions, but appearently the keepers of his estate can not.

There's also John Lennon - FBI files by Jon Wiener, who has sued the FBI and CIA under the Freedom of Infomation Act for release of the files kept by these agencies around the time John and Yoko were applying for residence in the US. Some new papers have been released recently.
